Thanksgiving and Christmas

I have definitely fallen behind in posting here . . . somehow it just hasn't felt like a priority over the last few months.

In November we hosted my parents for Thanksgiving dinner. We tried to keep it simple by using a combination of store-bought and homemade foods and were quite happy with the results.

I forgot to buy flowers for a centerpiece and ended up fashioning this little bouquet from foliage gathered from the yard--I was quite pleased with how it turned out.

The day after Thanksgiving we took my parents on another small wine tasting adventure at some of the wineries close to Corvallis. The others enjoyed sampling a variety of wines while I served as the designated driver. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed the Willamette Valley scenery. Our stops included Airlie Winery . . .

. . . as well as Emerson Vineyards.

More recently, Mike, Koda and I traveled up to Seattle and spent the week of Christmas with my parents. We enjoyed catching up with family and seeing a few friends, but most of the week we took it easy and did little other than visit our favorite Seattle bookstore and do bits of shopping we can't do at home in Corvallis. We did, however, enjoy a pre-Christmas visit to Molbak's nursery which has a beautiful display of poinsettias . . .

. . . and a walk along Lake Washington in Kirkland.

We had some absolutely gorgeous weather and another walk along Puget Sound in sparkling sunshine on the 26th (a rare treat for a Seattle winter).

And there's one other project that we've been working on, and that is growing this little one, apparently a boy, who is due in early May.

This, probably more than anything else, is the reason it's been so long since I last posted here, as for much of the fall I had little energy. But my energy level is again close to normal, and now we are busy figuring out what all we need take care of before this little one arrives.
