My parents and I also visited Swanson's, a beautiful Seattle nursery where I got lots of ideas for planters. Sometime before long you just might see something similar to one of these planters on our front steps.
I then headed to Denver, where I attended the international convention of TESOL (Teacher's of English to Speakers of Other Languages), which was inspiring and gave me lots of good ideas for enriching my teaching. This bear was keeping an eye on all of us who were at the conference, making sure that we got to our sessions on time.
I also had a chance to so a little sightseeing, though only within the city itself (I was really hankering to get into the mountains, but it just didn't work out). One of the highlights for me was the Tattered Cover Book Store, which I would say has got to be one of my favorite bookstores ever. If Mike and I were ever to open a bookstore (a possibility we occasionally vaguely entertain), I would like it to be like the Tattered Cover, with the addition of selling used books.
One surprise in Denver was that there was a huge snow storm, a blizzard, really, on the third day I was there. Over a foot of snow came down in 24 hours, and supposedly the "real feel" temperature was around 3 degrees (it definitely felt cold)! A lot of shops and restaurants were closed, and supposedly even the airport shut down for awhile, but it didn't really hamper the conference, and people were even still swimming in our hotel's rooftop pool (though not me!).
